December 2, 2009

Beginning January 1, 2010 we will require a waiver to be signed by any client wishing to purchase prescription medication for his/her pet online or from a pet supply catalogue. While we understand the desire to save money, advertisements by these companies promising a “deal” can be misleading.  In fact, some of these companies are not licensed pharmacies and dispense products that are not FDA approved.  Risks of purchasing prescriptions for your pet online include the following:
•    The manufacturer may not guarantee medications.
•    Some medications may be foreign drugs that may not have the same quality and purity assurance as the US does. It is generally illegal to dispense foreign drugs in the US, including foreign versions of US products.
•    Some medications may be imitations of approved drugs.
•    Selling prescriptions directly to consumers without a veterinarian-client-patient relationship may pose health risks to patients.

The Doctors and Staff at Swift Creek Animal Hospital are pleased to welcome Purina Veterinary Diets as our recommended prescription pet food line.

In an effort to continuously provide the highest level of service to you and your pets, we will be transitioning from Hill’s Prescription Diets to Purina Veterinary Diets starting April 27, 2009.

Deciding on a diet line is no easy task and we were specifically looking for a company with diets that could provide these characteristics:

 - High Quality/Effective Nutrition
 - Latest Advances in Science/Technology
 - Excellent Palatability (Taste)
 - Convenient/On-Time/Accurate Delivery
 - Reasonable Prices

Purina Veterinary Diets meet all of our needs!

If you have any questions regarding this change, we'll be happy to address them. Please feel free to discuss the new diets with our staff to see which one is correct for your pet!
